Director Biography:

Dani Robbins (they/them) is a choreographer/performer living and working on unceded Wabanaki territory in what is currently known as Bar Harbor, Maine. Dani uses a multimedia creative practice to develop performance work. While completing their undergraduate studies at Bennington College, they had the opportunity to work with the faculty and graduate students of the college, including Dana Reitz, Elena Demyanenko, Susan Sgorbati, Terry Creach, Rebecca Brooks, Stuart Shugg, Sam Wentz, and Yanan Yu. Dani has been hosted as an artist in residence at Lake Studios, Berlin (2017, 2018), by Elena Demyanenko at Bennington College and Middlebury College (2019, 2020) and by Acadia National Park (2019). They have performed collaborative and solo works in Germany, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York. Dani currently teaches as adjunct faculty at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where they offer classes in contemporary dance technique, video dance, and somatics. In addition to their creative and teaching practices, Dani works as Associate Director of the Acadia Dance Festival.
 
Piece Description:
songs from the edge of this dream is a choreographed soundscape that moves through contractions of order and disarray. The choral components of this work, paired with the hazy presence of analog synthesizer, work to create pools of sound that decompose and reassemble themselves. An unreliable narrator voiced and embodied by multiple soloists guides the viewer through a dream sequence that continues to multiply from inside, evoking sensations of how the bodily archive is recompiled between the various planes of our lives.

Engine is currently located in the historic Pepperell Trust building at 163 Main Street, most recently a Bangor Savings bank. The building houses an events space, a small gallery, a co-make space, and studios.
