Join us for a lively talk on the art and business of publishing with special guest Lucas Hunt, who is the author of the two acclaimed poetry collections Lives and Light on the Concrete, a rights manager at the Philip G. Spitzer Literary Agency, as well as the founder and director of Hunt & Light, a new publishing company. From the aesthetic perspective to the commercial imperative, Hunt will discuss his experience and passion for poetry and literature. Audience questions are most welcome!

Lucas Hunt studied English and journalism at the University of Iowa, where he wrote for The Daily Iowan newspaper, and attended the Poetry Writer’s Workshop. He studied in the MFA program at Southampton College, published his first volume of poetry, Lives, and won a John Steinbeck Award. Hunt’s second collection, Light on the Concrete, appeared in 2011 to critical acclaim. His poetry and writing have appeared in The New York Times, East Hampton Star, Fiction Writers Review, and Slice, among others.

Since 2007, Hunt has worked with the Philip G. Spitzer Literary Agency, whose clients include such standouts as Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, Andre Dubus III, Simon Van Booy, Jamie Maslin, and T. Zachary Cotler. As an agent and rights manager, he negotiates audio, foreign, digital, film, and domestic print deals. Hunt’s professional interests are fiction, travel, crime, and the humanities: books with both literary quality and commercial appeal.

In 2012, with the help of some publishing friends, Lucas Hunt founded Hunt & Light, an independent poetry publisher. The vision for Hunt & Light came from a love of books that satisfy a hunger for imagination and beauty, and capture the experience of words as art. Hunt & Light hand publishes original volumes or poetry with simplicity and style, on a mission to share the voices of great poets. Their first publication, *****Original Message***** by Matthew Frazier, is now available.
